MARQUETTE, MI. - Betty J. McEachern, age 83, of Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday evening, May 7, 2014 at her home in the loving and comforting care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice.
Betty was born June 1, 1930 in Ishpeming, Michigan to Samuel and Jennie (Gjolme) Watters. Raised in the Green Creek Location of Ishpeming, she graduated from National Mine High School in 1947. Following graduation, she completed two years of vocational commercial classes at Northern Michigan University.
She began her career in 1947 at Northern Stationers for six years before gaining employment with the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway. She retired in 1988 after being employed with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 30 years.
Betty was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodge Auxiliaries, and was treasurer for the Father Marquette Schools Holy Family Club for 25 years. She was also active in raffles for several other charities.
In 1954 she married the love of her life, Percy McEachern, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, playing blackjack and going to the casino. Watching sports was her passion, especially the Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Carol (Mike) Farmer of Marquette; a sister Grace LaValley of Marquette, a brother Raymond Watters of Ishpeming; her four legged faithful companion, Annie; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Percy, on December 30, 2008; her brothers, Jim, Bob, Russell, Clinton and George Watters; her sisters Ethel Hartman, Olive Huot and Katherine Anderson.

Friends may call at the Swanson Lundquist Funeral Home on Saturday, May 10, from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:30 pm. Chuck Tooman, Lake Superior Hospice chaplain, officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home following serices. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
