MARQUETTE, MI. - Benjamin David Sonderschafer, age 33, formerly of Marquette and currently residing in Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Iowa.
Born June 18, 1980 in Ypsilanti, a son of David and Cynthia (Repert) Sonderschafer, Ben moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1982 and throughout the years gained an appreciation and love for the area. He was a graduate of the Gwinn High School where he developed an appreciation and eye for art, especially drawing and painting.
Following graduation, he was employed with various companies in different states as a welder and fabricator. Ben's love of the UP was rooted in its natural beauty and the sporting opportunities it afforded. Spring meant trout season and wild trout lilies, while in the fall, his favorite season, he could continue to fish and also enjoy the hunt. He even loved the smell that lingered in the air following a rainfall. Ben possessed a love of cars, laughing, and spending time with his friends.
Ben is survived by his mother, Cindy (Pat Manning) Sonderschafer of Marquette; his daughter, Jillian Sonderschafer of Ishpeming and her mother, Traci Murray of Ishpeming; a sister, Sarah (Michael) Jusko of Mobile, AL; a niece, Amelia Jusko; his aunt, Yvonne (Alan) Bragalone of Drums, PA and two cousins, Jeremy and Kyle Bragalone.
Ben was preceded in death by his father, David Sonderschafer; his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Friday, May 9, from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow in the reception room located at the funeral home.
