GWINN - Host Gwinn used its superior numbers to good use in capturing a pair of high school track and field meet wins on Monday.
Superior Central had far more individual wins in each meet, but the Modeltowners did well in relays.
"We've got 48 kids out for boys and girls track this year, and we picked up a lot of seconds, thirds and fourths today," GHS coach Jim Morris said. "We have a lot of underclassmen, and they're starting to understand you want to get a good place even if you can't win."
That was especially true in the girls meet, where Gwinn won just two individual events, but swept all four relays to score 81 points to 69 for runner-up Bark River-Harris, 54 for SC and 26 for Munising Baptist.
The Broncos won four individual events - two each by Katie Schultz and Morgan Vanlanen - while Superior Central did even better, capturing five firsts.
The story was much the same in the boys meet, with SC capturing seven individual firsts, but finishing a distant third. Gwinn won two relays and four individual events to score 91 points, BR-H got the other two relays and two individuals for 70 and SC had 51. Munising Baptist picked up nine points, most on Grady Kerst's win in the 3,200-meter run.
