MARQUETTE - Dean Leece has been named Corrections Officer of the Year at Marquette Branch Prison.
Leece has been an officer for the Michigan Department of Corrections for 14 years, beginning his career at Baraga Correctional Facility in 1999 and transferring to Marquette Branch Prison in 2001.
He was selected by the Corrections Officer of the Year Committee as a result of his positive attitude, willingness to help others, knowledge and implementation of policies and procedures and consistent positive, professional demeanor.
"Corrections officer Leece's professional demeanor, integrity, honesty, and work ethic are assets to the entire state of Michigan, to our facility and to our local community," Marquette Branch Prison Warden Robert Napel said.
Married with three children, Leece is active in the community with youth sports as a coach for baseball and a volunteer with basketball and the Negaunee Public Schools.
