MARQUETTE - Lundin Mining Corp. has scheduled its latest slate of community forums, where attendees can get an update on the progress at Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill and vote on how well the mining company is meeting goals.
The four community forums are set for the Humboldt Township Hall Thursday, the Hampton Inn in Marquette on May 7, the Powell Township Hall in Big Bay on May 13 and the Michigamme Township Hall in Michigamme on May 21. All of the sessions are from 6 to 8 p.m.
The first Community Scorecard forum was conducted in Powell Township in September 2012 and the public sessions have been held about every six months since.

Lundin Mining Corp. has scheduled its next series of community forums, starting Thursday in Humboldt Township, to update the public on the progress at the mine and its Humboldt Mill and to receive feedback from the community. "As we move towards an operating mine we want to ensure we keep an open dialog with the community," Eagle Mine officials said in the schedule announcement. "The forums are meant to be a two-way conversation. We'll provide an update on the mine's progress and encourage you to ask us your questions about Eagle. In addition, we'd like you to score our performance in the areas that the community says matter the most."
Using electronic devices, attendees will be able to vote - and see results in real time - on whether the mining company has met, exceeded or measured below expectations in five key areas, including environmental performance, local hire, safety, transparency and communication and "leave more wood on the woodpile" (leaving the area better than when the company arrived).
In addition to its public forums, Eagle Mine officials have also held scoring sessions at gatherings hosted by the Lake Superior Community Partnership, Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce and Marquette Noon Rotary.
Mining company workers or contractors are not permitted to participate in the surveys. The mining company posts the combined results from the forums on its website.
