NEGAUNEE, MI. - Nanette Marie Blewett of 940 Baldwin Ave., Negaunee passed away on Wednesday, April 2 at her home following a brief illness.
Nanette graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1972 and worked at Olson's News in Ishpeming until it closed. She became a foster parent for adjudicated teens in Marquette County and cared for first, teen boys, then teen girls. She was respected as a caring, patient, non-judgmental foster parent. She loved the family camp on Lake Arfelin even though she was mostly home bound from severe diabetes and wasn't able to enjoy it as much in recent years.
She had an abiding love of nature and wrote and spoke of nature's beauty in poetic terms. She loved animals and would become distressed to hear of animal cruelty and neglect.
She is survived by her sister Joan of Mesquite, Nevada. She is also survived by cousins, "Bo" Young of Marquette and Rex Young of Texas, Jean Carlson of Negaunee, Mary Sundberg of Ishpeming, James and Bill Blewett of Ishpeming. Lastly, and perhaps most important, by her beloved, Tom Rossi of Ishpeming.
She was predeceased by our parents Leslie and Rena.
Nanette's life was foreshortened and constrained by diabetes but she still made an impact on all who knew or encountered her.
Donations may be made in her name to the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter of Marquette County (UPAWS).
There will be no funeral but a memorial service to celebrate her life will be planned for early May.
