NEGAUNEE - A two-car garage was destroyed by fire late Monday afternoon in the city of Negaunee.
The blaze, which happened at 705 County Road, was called in to Marquette County Central Dispatch at 4:37 p.m. The fire was confined only to the garage, which was not attached to a nearby home. There were no reported injuries and no vehicles were apparently parked inside the structure. However, Negaunee Fire Chief Ned Cory said that a boat that was inside the structure was destroyed.
Cory said that the garage was a total loss, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

"It was fully (engulfed)," he said. "When the firemen got here, the flames were shooting out through the roof."
He added that the garage did not have a furnace or heating system inside.
The Negaunee Township fire department provided mutual aid to the blaze, in large part because of the frozen fire hydrants that were non-functional on both sides of the garage.
"We just had the two tankers dump the water into the tank and used the water from there," Cory said. "For a small garage fire, it went pretty good."
Personnel from both departments remained on the scene extinguishing hot spots into the evening hours.
