Regional history center presents awards

In photo at left, Carol Brady, left, former trustee of the Marquette Regional History center board, presents the Helen Longyear Paul Award to Earl Otchingwanigan, a nationally recognized authority on Ojibwe and Native American culture. He has worked to preserve and pass on the Ojibwe language, crafts and traditions. He also was responsible for building the Ojibwe diorama at the Marquette Regional History Center. In photo at right, Jim Paquette, left, trustee of the MRHC board, presents the Peter White Award to Ernie Johnson, vice president of the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club. The club hosts programs and presentations that encourage interest in the minerals of the area and showing how those minerals have played vital roles in the economic development of the region.
