ISHPEMING - After some thought, Jeff Olson has decided to return next season as the Ishpeming High School varsity boys basketball coach.
"I plan on doing it unless something comes up," he said Wednesday. "I'm still young enough (50) to enjoy coaching.
"I have some good players coming back (next season), too."
Olson coached the IHS football team to its second straight MHSAA Division 7 state title in November, then took the school's basketball squad to a 16-5 overall mark in his first season at the helm.
He thought about giving up the hoops post, but as of now, said he'll be back.
"It's a grind and I don't want to burn myself out," he said. "I help coach track, too.
"But we have some good kids coming back (for basketball) with a little bit of height. I know they'll work hard, so I plan (on coming back)."
Expected to lead the Hematites next season are juniors Ozzy Hakkarinen, Dominic Suardini and Dan Thornton, as well as sophomore Ozzy Corp.
Olson will also be able to draw players from an IHS junior varsity squad that went 13-4 last season.
