To the Journal editor:
I would like to commend the staff at Van Riper State Park for all the planning and work that went into the Candlelight Cross Country Ski/Snowshoe event on March 7.
My husband and I went on snowshoes. The lighted trail was beautiful and in excellent condition. We enjoyed the giggles of the early elementary age girls in the group ahead of us.
It was truly an event for all ages. Afterwards we warmed up in the rustic cabin and talked with other participants. There was also a bonfire for those who preferred to be outdoors.
I would like to recommend that other communities consider providing evening outdoor winter events like this one. It was a great opportunity for people of all ages to get out and enjoy what winter has to offer us Yoopers.
It also has economic impact for the communities as we have traveled to similar snowshoe walks in other states.
