NEGAUNEE, MI. - Adolph Lawrence 'Larry' LaLande, Jr., 80, of the Valley View Apartments on Rail St., Negaunee, passed away at 1:45 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Larry battled cancer for several years; he was a fighter and loved life.
Larry was born May 22, 1933 in Escanaba to Adolph LaLande, Sr. and Barbara Burnett. He was raised in Big Bay and Marquette and graduated from Gravaraet High School, Class of 1951. He worked at U.P. Office Supply for 45 years, except for a two year period while serving his country in the United States Army. Following retirement in 1994, Larry and his wife became full-time RVers and travelled the country. They were workcampers off and on for the past 11 years, and sold pumpkins and Christmas trees in Bluffton, S.C. near Hilton Head Island. They spent winters in Florida.
Larry was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Detroit Lions and Tigers. Larry pitched fastpitch softball in Marquette until he was 50 years of age. He also liked dancing, playing cards, golfing, shooting pool, and spending time with friends and family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy (Lee) LaLande; a son, Michael (Mindy) LaLande of Mount Pleasant; 3 daughters: Becky Veale of Negaunee Township; Cathy Greenleaf and Kelli LaLande, both of Marquette; 9 grandchildren: Lindsey and Ashley Veale, Blayze and Karrigen Courtney, Alyie Kowalczyk, Dessa LaLande, Heather Brigman, Alexis Black and Haley LaLande; 2 great-grandchildren: Katelynn and Lexi; 4 brothers: Charles, Allan, Herbert and Steve; 3 sisters: Carol, Linda and Karen; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandchildren: Dalton and Levi Greenleaf; a brother, David; 3 sisters: Elaine Storch, Virginia Cousineau and Dorothy Feltner.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 19 at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Lake Superior Hospice for the compassionate care given to Larry.
