BIG BAY, MI. - Edward Henry Havel, Jr., age 58, of Big Bay, entered eternal life on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at his home in the loving care of his family.
Ed was born on July 16, 1955 in Newberry to Edward and Janet (Meyers) Havel and was raised in Big Bay. Following graduation from high school Ed joined his father and his oldest brother in the family logging business. He worked in the family business until his fathers retirement. Ed then continued his logging career with Fraley Brothers and Son before joining JM Longyear in 2000 working as a Log Yard Supervisor. In his spare time Ed was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes but most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his mother, Janet Havel of Big Bay; his wife of 33 years, Kay Havel of Big Bay; his two sons, Luke Havel of Big Bay, Chris (Amy Tierrablanca) Havel of Big Bay; six grandchildren; his brother, Michael (Sharon) Havel of Marquette and Many nieces, nephews, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, James Havel.
Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Thursday March 13, 2014 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with Lay Minister Darryl Small officiating. A luncheon will follow in the reception room located in the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring in the Powell Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 1480 West Center Road Suite 1, Essexville, Michigan 48732.
