MARQUETTE - The Learning to Walk Together Traditional Pow Wow will start at 11 a.m. Saturday in Vandament Arena at Northern Michigan University, Marquette.
The doors open to the public at 11 a.m., with two grand entries at noon and 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $5 and NMU students are free with a student ID. The celebration begins with the grand entry and flag song, followed by the veterans song to honor male and female veterans.
The event includes traditional powwow dances and social powwow dances, with artisan and vendor booths. Highlighted performances include Don Chosa Jr., head veteran; KBIC Honor Guard; Bahweting Singers, host drum; Lisa Brunk, head female dancer; Tony Davis, head male dancer; Bucko Teeple, master of ceremonies; Bobby Blackdeer, arena director; Sam Doyle, fire keeper; Buffalo Bay Singers, invited drums; and Four Thunders, invited drums.
