MARQUETTE, MI. - Rose J. "Betty" Thompson, 93, of Marquette, died Tuesday evening, February 25, 2014 under the care of U.P. Home Health & Hospice.
Rose was born on February 12, 1921 in Marquette, a daughter of the late George and Rose (Stenglein) Beaudry and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1938 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School.
Rose was employed for 10 years with Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Michigan. She was a member of North American Benefit Association for 70 years, serving as previous president of the Marquette chapter and former chaplain of the national chapter.

Rose was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Marquette and a former member of St. Peter Cathedral as well as its altar society. She enjoyed traveling and volunteering for charitable organizations.
In 2002, Rose was named the Blueberry Lady of Marquette.
She loved to work in her garden, crochet and knit. Spending time with grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as her numerous friends was always a joy to her.
She is survived by three children, Georgia R. Carlson of Marquette, Robert (Judy) Racine of Estero, FL and Retha Sue (William Ratliff) Lachance of East Lansing, MI; three step children, Wayne (Linda) Thompson, Dave (Rita) Thompson and Mary Kay (Ed) Fletcher also 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her special friend, William Jilbert of Dallas, TX.
Preceding her in death besides her parents was her first husband, Raphael Racine in 1974, her second husband, Harold Thompson in 1991; an infant son, Ralph Michael Racine; also three brothers, George W. Beaudry, Harold Beaudry, and Rose's twin brother, Robert Beaudry and one step child Michael Thompson.
A Funeral Mass was held on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter Cathedral with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. Rose's grandchildren were her escorts.
