MANISTIQUE, MI. - Barbara Bernice Chartier, age 86, of Hiawatha Township, Manistique, Michigan, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming, Michigan.
She was born August 27, 1927, in Manistique, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Seling) Hoholik. She attended Manistique High School.
On February 2, 1948, she married Clyde Chartier in Manistique. They made their home and raised their family in Manistique. Clyde preceded Barbara in death on January 20, 2013.
Barbara found her happiness in her home on the river, a place she shared with her husband Clyde for nearly 65 years.
She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Barbara was a Manistique Elkette and enjoyed golf and bowling. Her gardens were her pride and joy and kept her busy from spring to fall. The birds she fed were her children after her own children had grown. She would not have asked for more in life.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Kenneth) Haines of Park City, Kentucky; son, Ryan (Jackie) Chartier of Marquette, Michigan; 3 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one due in April; sister, Mary Theresa Noble of Superior, Wisconsin; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Clyde, she was preceded in death by nine siblings, Anna, Joseph, Michael, Martin "Martzy," Francis "Swede," Helen, Irene, Anna Marie, and Raymond "Zeke" Hoholik.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 -11:30 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2014, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., in the church, with Father Glenn Theoret officiating. Burial will be in Hiawatha Township Cemetery in Manistique in the spring.
