MARQUETTE - The Marquette school board will hear an update Monday from Superintendent Bill Saunders on negotiations with the teachers union, the only union group still without a contract for the current year.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday inside the Marquette Senior High School Library.

Members of the Marquette Area Education Association, which represents Marquette Area Public Schools teachers, staged a "walk-in/walk-out" Wednesday in which they arrived at and left work at exactly the time specified in their prior contract.

The group was hoping to prove a point about how many actual hours teachers work during the school year. It was also hoping to raise awareness among parents and the local community about its current contract situation.

Jackie Stark can be reached at 906-228-2500, ext. 242 or by email at
