MENOMINEE - Coming off a 45-41 loss at top-ranked and unbeaten North Central on Monday night, the Munising boys basketball team dropped another game on Wednesday, this time at Menominee 53-48.
Munising, which is ranked second in the Class D U.P. boys' basketball poll, carried a 33-30 lead into the fourth quarter but Devon Harris ignited a 15-4 Maroon surge.
"It's a really nice win for us. It's huge, especially against a good team," Menominee coach Pete Pericolosi said. "They lost to North Central by just four points and I think North Central is the best team in the U.P."
Harris's drive and dish to Nick Cattani lit the fuse for the pivotal run. Tyler Howell tipped in a rebound to give the Maroons a 34-33 lead, before the Mustangs sank two FTs to claim their final lead (35-34) of the game with 6:34 left.
Harris hit a shot from the top of the key to reclaim the lead for Menominee and Ryan Woods cashed in a steal for a layup to push the lead to 38-35.
After a Harris steal and drive to the rim, Marcus McKenney buried a 3-pointer to stretch the Menominee lead to 45-37 with 3:25 left.

The Maroons sank seven of nine shots during the game-clinching charge.
Pericolosi noted that the Mustangs' slow tempo played into the hands of the Maroons.
"Their tempo helped us. If we have to score a lot of points, we're in trouble," he said.
Garrett Blank sank an inside shot to chip the margin to 45-39 with 2:46 remaining. Munising chopped the margin to three points on Noah Ackeman's 3-pointer and Austin Kelto's soft jumper from the lane, but McKenney swished two FTs to nudge the lead to 51-46 with 40 seconds left.
Menominee sank six of seven free throws in crunch time to protect its lead. The Maroons hit 14 of 21 free throws, while holding the Mustangs to the line just seven times.
Garrett Blank., who came off the bench to score 12 points in a 47-45 win over Menominee at Munising, led the Mustangs with 13 points. Ackerman added 11 points. Six-foot-six Ben Stasewich, who scored 20 against North Central, was held to six points.
