MARQUETTE - Rachel Borchardt of Northern Michigan University has been named the GLIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Freshman of the Year following her performance at the conference championships last week.

"I'm really proud of Rachel and how she competed last week," Wildcat head coach Heidi Voigt said. "She swam her heart out and competed really well during her first GLIAC Championship."

Borchardt won the 500-yard freestyle in 4 minutes, 56.25 seconds. She finished second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:08.32) and second in the 1,650 freestyle (17:14.10).

Borchardt also finished sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.69).

In addition, she swam the first leg in Northern's 200 freestyle relay, which won the event and set a school-record time of 1:37.93. Borchardt then swam the second leg of the 800 freestyle relay, which finished second and also established a school-record with a time of 7:32.60.
