At Eben, the much-anticipated Alger County showdown between two of the Upper Peninsula's top Class D teams never materialized.

The Cougars improved to 15-2 overall and 12-0 to all but end the race in the Central U.P. Conference, while the Mustangs slipped to 12-5 and 7-2.

"This was Munising's third game this week, and I think our girls were up for it tonight," SC coach Greg Trowbridge. "I challenged them after we didn't play very well last week."

Senior Vanessa Freberg recorded game highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Cougars, who led 32-10 at halftime. Three more seniors also broke into double figures with Brooke Pasanen scoring 14 points, Brianna Emard 10 and Teslyn Tyner with 11 to go along with four assists and four steals. SC blistered the nets, making 61 percent of its shots on 23-of-38 shooting.

Senior Megan Watson and freshman Marissa Immel each had five points for Munising, which won the JV game 47-37.
