IRON MOUNTAIN - Iron Mountain won a battle of contrasting styles with Westwood on Wednesday.
Zach Caudell and Jacob Thomann, a pair of 6-foot-5 Mountaineers, combined for 31 points and 21 rebounds in Iron Mountain's 58-43 Mid-Peninsula Conference boys basketball win. The smaller - but pesky - Patriots couldn't match that size.
"It's like looking at two different basketball teams out there," Iron Mountain coach Bucky Johnson said. "We're so big and they're so small. But they're really fast.
"We were able to force our will and our big guys were able to get in there for easy shots."
Westwood (3-5 overall, 4-8 M-PC), down 28-16 at halftime, charged to within 36-29 late in the third quarter when Luke Gray peppered the Mountaineers with three straight 3-pointers.
Iron Mountain turned back that threat with a 10-5 surge sparked by reserve senior guard Ryan Ducharme.

"We just had some stretches that were just indescribable," Westwood coach Ryan Reichel said. "You do a lot of little things wrong and you'll wind up losing."
Ducharme assisted a shorthanded backcourt, with Brock Grenier fouling out and CJ Qualley sitting out the second half with an illness.
Ducharme drilled a triple from the top of the key, drew the foul and tallied a four-point play to make it 46-34 with seven minutes left.
Caudell led the Mountaineers (9-7, 6-4) with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Brock Grenier chipped in 12 and Thomann had 11 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
The 6-foot Duquette topped the Patriots with 13 points and six rebounds. Next high was 5-7 Luke Gray with nine.
"Duquette got hot for a minute there, but we need more than one guy in double figures, especially against a quality team like Iron Mountain," Reichel said. "Bucky does a great job utilizing what he has."
Iron Mountain took the junior varsity game, 60-30.
