NMU skiing: Martin, Frankowski lead Americans in Italy

MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University freshman Nordic skier Adam Martin and junior Rosie Frankowski were the top American finishers in their respective events over the weekend at the International Ski Federation Under-23 and Junior World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Martin was the top American in the Junior men's 10-kilometer classic race, finishing 26th overall in 28 minutes, 1.1 seconds. Russia's Roman Kaygordov was 1:24.2 faster with a winning time of 26:36.9.

Frankowski was the top American in the U23 women's skiathlon, posting a time of 47:43.4, which was good for 26th overall. Norway's Martine Ek Hagen won the skiathlon in 44:37.5.

Competition at the FIS U23 World Ski Championships concludes today with the women's four-by-3.3K relay and the men's four-by-5K relay.
