MARQUETTE, MI. -Leonard Leroy Manning, age 88, of Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday evening, January 23, 2014, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, in the comforting care of his son and the Jacobetti staff.
Born September 4, 1925 in Warren, Wisconsin, a son of Malcom and Lucille (Maag) Manning, Leonard was raised in Munising and graduated from high school there in 1943.
He entered the US Navy, serving during World War II and, following his honorable discharge, returned to Marquette. He married Estelle Bradley in 1946. Leonard was employed with the railroad for a time, first as a fireman and later as an engineer. He later went into business with his father at Manning Heating Company for seven years as a salesman and installer.
The family then moved to Chicago where Leonard was employed in multiple jobs throughout the years with heating, ventilating, and air conditioning companies through Sheet Metal Worker's Local 73 in Chicago. He retired in 1980.
Following retirement, Leonard enjoyed being a stock market speculator and moved to Florida where he enjoyed golf, tennis, and life. He resided in Chicago for a time before returning to Marquette.
Survivors include his son, Leonard Lee (Kathleen) Manning of Rolling Meadows, IL; 4 grandchildren, Sheila (Rik) Neu, Patrick Manning, Jessica (Marvin) Bownstetter, and Aaron Manning; four great-grandchildren, Amber, Kira, Marvin Jr., and Samuel; his brother, Ronald (Marlene) Manning of Marquette; and sister-in-law, Mary Manning of Marquette.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle, in 1978; and a brother, Glenn Manning.
