BIG BAY - A 45-year-old Big Bay resident and her two dogs safely escaped her burning vehicle on County Road 550 Sunday.

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post responded to a vehicle fire on County Road 550 near County Road KCH in Powell Township. Upon arrival, troopers found the vehicle was fully engulfed in fire, with the occupants out of the vehicle.

The investigation revealed the driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling north on County Road 550, struck the right shoulder snowbank and became stuck. The driver tried to free the vehicle, which then caught fire. The vehicle was destroyed.

The 45-year-old female was arrested for operating while intoxicated and was lodged in the Marquette County jail.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Powell Township EMS and Fire Department.
