GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. - Northern Michigan University Nordic skiers George Cartwright and Felicia Gesior both captured second to lead the Wildcats at the Mt. Itasca Distance races on Saturday in Minnesota.
Cartwright finished the 10-kilometer freestyle in 25 minutes, 17.6 seconds for second while junior Kyle Bratrud was third in 25:18.7 and freshman Fredrik Schwencke was fifth at 25:42.7.
For the NMU women, Geisor's second-place time was 15:19.6 in the women's 5K freestyle, followed by junior Mary Kate Cirelli in third at 15:22.6. Freshman Kristen Bourne was the top Under-20 finisher and ninth overall, finishing in 15:38.8.
"It was a good weekend of competition for us," NMU head coach Sten Fjeldheim said. "Overall I was pleased with the result and we are looking forward to hosting the CCSA Championships in a couple of weeks."
NMU returns to the trails when its hosts the Central Collegiate Ski Association Championships on Feb. 8-9 at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.
