ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Northern Michigan University junior defenseman Mitch Jones scored twice on the power play to lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 victory over Alaska-Anchorage on Friday at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
Jones gave NMU a 1-0 lead 11:27 into the game with assists from senior forward Stephan Vigier and freshman forward John Siemer. Freshman forward Gerard Hanson and Siemer then assisted Jones at 12:01 of the second period to put NMU up 2-1.
NMU junior forward Reed Seckel added a third goal for the Wildcats ay 12:21 of the third period with assists by junior defenseman Jake Baker and freshman forward Dominik Shine. Seckel's goal was the lone even-strength goal all night with both teams getting six advantages.
UAA, which was playing NMU for the first time since 1997 and hosting the 'Cats for the first time since 1996, tied the game 1-1 at 14:35 with a power play goal by freshman forward Dylan Hubbs.
NMU redshirt freshman goaltender Mathias Dahlstrom finished with 22 saves and UAA netminder Chris Kamal made 14 stops.
