Prep hockey: Rieboldt’s two goals plenty for Marquette at Midland

January 25, 2014
By Journal Sports Staff (sports@miningjournal.net) , The Mining Journal

MIDLAND - Senior Cole Rieboldt scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the first period, and sophomore goalie Travis Cameron stopped 20 of 21 shots as Marquette won on the road at Midland, 5-1, in a high school hockey game played Friday evening.

Rieboldt joined fellow senior Cam Verigin in scoring first-period goals as the Redmen (5-7-4) got all the scoring they would need before the first 17 minutes were up.

That's because Cameron stopped every shot but one on a power play by the Chemics' Brendan Witt 5:45 into the second period. About three minutes earlier, Marquette senior defenseman Dom Stanchina scored to make it 3-0.

MSHS added insurance in the third off shots by junior Scott Frazier and Rieboldt for the final margin.

The Redmen got single assists from seniors Logan Eck, Justin Cain and Dalton Duquette; juniors Luke Schwemin and Brock Smith; and sophomore Jake Phillips.

"We played well, and I was really happy that all four of our (forward) lines scored," Marquette coach Doug Garrow said. "Travis Cameron played a good game in net, and our defensive play has really tightened up after we started the season 0-5-1."
