NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI. - Charles E. Bond, 76, of State Highway M-35, Negaunee Township, died peacefully at home at 12:09 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Charlie was born March 31, 1937 in Antrim County, MI to Clarence and Addie (Barrow) Bond, was raised in Shingleton and attended school in Munising. He married Donna J. Sampsell on May 25, 1957 and they moved to the Negaunee area in 1962. Charlie owned and operated Bond Trucking/ Logging, was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers Local 324, and was employed at Lindberg and Sons, Inc.
Mr. Bond was a member of Mitchell United Methodist Church, Negaunee and belonged to the Model 'A' Club. He enjoyed woodworking and playing baseball in the old timer's league, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Donna J. (Sampsell) Bond; 3 daughters: Cindy (Paul) Bertucci of Ishpeming, Carrie (David) Heard of Negaunee and Charlette (Bob) Hollinshead of Champion; 4 grandchildren: Mark (Stephanie Hite) Bertucci, Dalton (Abbey Japp) Hollinshead, Mariah Heard and Addison (Alex Starzynski) Hollinshead; 2 great-grandchildren: Colton Bertucci and Alyzandra Hollinshead; a brother, Keith (Nancy) Bond of Chatham; a sister, Naoma (Larry) Henry of Shingleton; sister-in-law, Beverly Bond; a special cousin, Wanda Barraw; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Clarence, Estell and Duane Bond; and a sister, Audrey Baldwin.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25 at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Mater officiating. Burial will be in Northland Chapel Gardens. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and also on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m.
