ISHPEMING - Winning eight of 12 events, the Ishpeming-Negaunee boys swimming and diving team beat host Westwood on Monday, 148-97.

In girls' competition, Westwood took top honors with 128 points. Hancock came in second with 94 and I-N was a close third with 93.

Peter Leppanen led the I-N boys with individual triumphs in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.72) and 500 free (5:59.14). He also swam with the winning 400 free relay unit (4:07.98) as I-N claimed all three relays.

Skyler Dakota placed first in the 50 free (25.96 seconds) and 100 free (57.64) for Westwood.

"We put up a great fight and swam some great times," Westwood coach Kelli Pfiester said. "We're just low on numbers. We had six boys competing today."

On the girls' side, the winning Patriots used team depth and four first-place finishes to take the meet.

The Patriots' Gabby French claimed the 50 free (30.47); Mya Maanika took the diving (no point total available); Emma Taras won the 100 free (1:08.77) and the 200 free relay unit of French, Miranda Roose, Taras and Helen Boburka placed first in 2:06.84.

Kendra Tervo and Abby Johnson both took an individual win for I-N and swam with the winning 200 medley relay squad (2:25.59) with Colleen Anderton and Alison Solka.

Tervo claimed the 100 backstroke (1:20.65) and Johnson the 100 breaststroke (1:25.22).

"My girls swam hard and many of them dropped times," Pfiester said.
