ESCANABA - It would not have taken a rocket scientist to figure out what made the difference in a dual gymnastics meet Wednesday night at Escanaba High School.
The Marquette Redettes, which opened by grabbing the top four spots on balance beam, then hung on for a 118.25-116.05 triumph over the host Eskymos.
"Our girls did an excellent job on beam," said Marquette coach Kris Lakenen. "They're really focused this year on beam, which is something we had been struggling with in the past."
While the Redettes were successful in staying on beam, the Eskymos were struggling.
Dinelle Stewart won beam with 8.2 points, with freshman Erin Linderoth leading the Eskymos in fifth at 7.5.
Other than beam, the teams appeared to be evenly matched through the remaining events. Esky held the edge in floor exercise and vault, with the Redettes gaining the overall edge on the uneven bars.
