GWINN - Gladstone's Jared Hunter sank a 3-point shot with 18 seconds left to send the Gwinn High School boys basketball team to a 49-47 non-conference home defeat Tuesday night.

"I called a time out with nine seconds left and (Gwinn's Owen) DeVooght had a good look, but he didn't connect," GHS head coach Darren Sinnaeve said.

"It's a tough loss. We played hard, but we missed 23 shots in the paint."

Sinnaeve added senior Justin Nyquist suffered a "possible" concussion in the fourth quarter.

DeVooght led the Modeltowners (4-2) with 16 points and six rebounds. Nyquist added 10 points before leaving the game.

For Gladstone (4-4), Hunter wound up with 20 markers. Tyler Wells contributed 11.

Escanaba 61,

Westwood 45

At Ishpeming Tuesday night, the host Westwood couldn't contain Escanaba's Brandon Robinette in a 61-45 non-league loss to the Eskymos.

Robinette poured in 23 points for the class ABC No. 3-ranked Eskymos (6-2). Sam Molnar tossed in 14 and Ben Kleiman chipped in 10.

Mitchell Messing tossed in 18 points to pace WHS (1-5). Justin Luke netted 12 points and Patriots teammate Luke Duquette grabbed 10 boards.

"We got into an eight-point hole in the first quarter and never recovered," WHS head coach Ryan Reichel said. "We got it to seven in the third quarter, but a turnover and a couple of (Escanaba) 3-pointers sent their lead to 16.

"Robinette is a 6-5 guard who's hard to guard. And if he misses a shot, he has the ability to get a rebound and put the ball back in (the basket)."
