MARQUETTE - USA Wrestling national team members and other nationally-ranked athletes are visiting Northern Michigan University for a 10-day camp in preparation for their coming international season.
The camp, which also includes resident-athletes from NMU's Olympic Training Site, is traditionally held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
"One reason we decided to take it up to Northern Michigan is that one of our goals at this camp is to bring our university-age guys together with our senior guys," National Greco-Roman coach Steve Fraser said.
Coaches Rob Hermann and Aghasi Manukyan will run a great camp for the athletes.
Although many are visiting Marquette for the first time, eight out of the 28 visiting athletes are former NMU students.
Nate Engel, who attend NMU from 2007-2010 is one of those former athletes.
"I feel this is the place that made me the wrestler I am today," Engle said. "There are many good memories here.
"This camp will also assist me as I continue striving to improve."
Engel, currently ranked second in the nation at 55- kilograms, now wrestles for the United States Army. He also serves as an assistant coach for the Air Force Academy collegiate team.
