MARQUETTE - Sub-zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills have forced the postponement of a number of high school sporting events in Marquette County.

In girls basketball, Westwood's nonconference home game against Bark River-Harris has be postponed with no make-up date set yet. Ishpeming's Mid-Peninsula Conference game at Gwinn, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 4, has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 15 with the varsity tip off slated for 2:30 p.m.

In boys basketball, Marquette Senior High School's nonconference matchup against Iron Mountain is postponed. No make-up date has been set.

Last week, MSHS also postponed its Marquette Invitational alpine ski races that were supposed to take place at Marquette Mountain. The school is working to re-schedule the meet.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, the area is under a wind chill warning until 11 a.m. on Tuesday with wind chills dipping as low as 25-50 below zero today through Tuesday morning.
