Negaunee skates past host Purple Hornets

L'ANSE The Negaunee High School hockey team came back from a first period deficit to top L'Anse, 5-4, on Friday.

The teams were tied 2-2 going into the third period, but the Miners went up two on the Purple Hornets with goals from senior Cody Wetton and sophomore Jeffrey Mathews.

From there, the teams took turns scoring, and Negaunee finished up one with a late goal.

"Every time we had a two-goal lead, we let up a little bit," Negaunee coach Darrell Sleeman said.

Wetton notched a hat trick for the Miners, scoring once in the first period and twice in the third.

Kyle Maki had two goals for L'Anse, while Riley Thompson and Sean Lake had a goal and an assist each.
