National Weather Service warns of winter weather

Where we stand

December 28, 2013
The Mining Journal

Across the Upper Peninsula, the National Weather Service has forecast moderate to heavy snowfall for tonight into Sunday near Lake Superior. The forecast indicates only the latest in a recent volley between snow storms and bitterly cold temperatures - a back-and-forth combination that can be dangerous for drivers, especially if they become stranded.

Forecasters advised motorists to expect roadways to become snow-covered and slippery making travel hazardous tonight into Sunday. A weather advisory stated, "If you must travel, slow down and allow plenty of extra time to reach your destination."

We also urge drivers to be cautious, take extra time and make provisions for stormy weather. The holiday season is busy and people are seemingly in a rush to go everywhere. Taking a few minutes to be prepared for the changing weather conditions and reaching your destination will likely result in safer travel for everyone.
