NORWAY - Junior Courtney Clickner posted 11 points and five rebounds to help Negaunee defeat Norway, 43-26, in a high school girls basketball game played Friday night.

"We came out with great defensive intensity," Miners coach Brandon Sager said. "We capitalized on some fast-break opportunities in the first half. Our shooters were ready to shoot tonight; that is something we worked on in practice."

Negaunee (2-3 overall, 2-0 Mid-Peninsula Conference) grabbed leads of 11-6 and 25-10 at the end of the first two quarters despite not attempting a free throw the entire game.

Norway (2-4, 1-2) wasn't able to capitalize, though, making just 6 of 17 shots at the line, including 0 of 5 in the fourth quarter.

While Miners freshman Aleda Johnson added 10 points to the winning cause, the Knights were paced by Rachel Conery with eight points.

Negaunee also won the JV game, 37-29.

L'Anse 69, W. Iron Cty. 55

In a boys game played at Iron River on Friday, L'Anse erased a 34-28 halftime deficit, going ahead 50-48 after three quarters and icing the game in the fourth.

Jimmy Veker paced the Purple Hornets (4-0, 2-0 West PAC) with 29 points, while teammate Jacob Ostermeyer chipped in with 21 and Ryan LaBerge had 14.

Andy Ridolphia led the Wykons (2-3, 0-3) with 23 points as teammates Ryan Rogers and Adam Newby had 12 apiece.
