L'ANSE - The Negaunee High School hockey team withstood a three-goal rally by L'Anse on Wednesday on the road, but the Purple Hornets needed a fourth goal to force overtime, allowing the Miners to skate away with a 5-4 win.
Negaunee outshot L'Anse 28-24 and led the game 5-1 before L'Anse charged back.
NHS junior forward Michael Farley finished with three goals and an assist. He scored the final two goals of the night for Negaunee to not only extend the Miners' lead from two to four goals at the time, but to complete what proved to be a vital hat trick.
Freshman forward Jackson Vilona also had a goal and an assist for Negaunee and junior defenseman Luke Jacobson had the other Negaunee goal.
Other NHS assists came from junior forward Scott Syrjala, senior forward Tony Gravedoni, junior forward Chad Larson and junior forward Ryan Bischof.
Negaunee junior goaltender Tyler Riutta finished with 20 saves.
