North Star Academy's 2013 donation drive for TV6 Canathon was an enormous success. The K-12 school with 281 students donated a whopping 1,719 non-perishable items. The Jobs for America's Graduates class planned, organized and oversaw the effort and set several goals: increase participation at high school level, raise awareness of hunger and poverty, and collect 1,000 items. The students feel the event was an absolute success. When Salvation Army officials picked up the donations, they were amazed by what the small school had accomplished. Cyndy Rankinen, Distribution Facilitator with Salvation Army, said, "We serve over 200 households between the lunch program and client-choice food pantry each month. We are very grateful for this generous donation." The JAG class would like to give a huge thanks to everyone for each donation. They beat their goal and learned so much about contributing, not just once a year, but making a difference every day.
