MARQUETTE - A Wetmore woman was transported to Marquette General Hospital Friday for treatment of minor injuries sustained in a two-car personal injury accident on U.S. 41 near Brickyard Road in Marquette Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the scene at around 1:30 Friday afternoon. Police said George Balko, 64, of Wetmore was driving his 2012 GMC Terrain when he pulled out from Brickyard Road and across U.S. 41 when he struck a 2006 Chrysler Sebring driven by Karen Rinehart, 23, of Negaunee.

Balko's passenger, Anne Balko, was treated for minor injuries in the accident, and Balko was cited for failure to yield.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, Marquette Township Fire/Rescue and Marquette General EMS.

An Ishpeming man was transported to the Bell Hospital Friday morning for treatment of minor injuries sustained in a single vehicle personal injury accident in Negaunee Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office, which responded to the crash, said Peter Joseph Ogea, 57, was traveling east on U.S. 41 near Heritage Drive when he lost control of his 2002 Ford pickup truck on snow covered roads and slid into the median, where he struck a snowbank, causing the vehicle to roll on its roof.

The Negaunee Township fire department and Bell Hospital EMS assisted at the scene.
