NEGAUNEE - The Negaunee City Council on Thursday is expected to consider requesting a U.S. Department of Agriculture payment for the city's wastewater improvement project.
The council meet at 7 p.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center.
On the agenda is consideration of a USDA funding request for roughly $347,000. The amount reflects ongoing work by A. Lindberg & Sons Inc. on the project as well as some engineering costs and moving the sewer line from its planned route on Rail Street to Iron Ore Heritage Trail property behind the Negaunee Ice Arena. The move was approved by the council at its November meeting.
The council is also scheduled to consider authorizing a $133,400 payment to AECOM and Lindberg for the replacement of the Sioux Court Lift Station. The station failed in early 2013, according to council packet materials, and though it wasn't originally part of the wastewater improvement project, it was replaced it at the same time as the Ann Street lift station.
In addition, the council will consider appointments to the city's planning, parks and recreation and aging commissions. All current members have expressed interest in remaining in their appointed seats.
There are also two vacancies on the Board of Review, which are elected positions. Mayor Keith LaCosse could appoint city residents to fill the vacancies until the next election.
