Joseph John ‘Joe’ Winter

MARQUETTE, MI. - Joseph John Winter "Joe", 82, of Marquette, died Saturday morning, November 30, 2013, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Joe was born February 8, 1931 in Negaunee, to Joseph G. Winter and Ella (Kumpula) Winter and was a lifelong area resident.

He served in the US Marine Corp. and was a Korean Conflict veteran.

On September 5, 1965 he married the former Shirley Wilks in Marquette.

Joe worked for Coca-Cola Bottling, in maintenance at St. Mary's and as a window washer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before returning to the area. Joe was then employed as a production truck driver for CCI at the Empire Mine for many years prior to retirement.

He was a former member of the Negaunee VFW. His interests included a love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, dancing and singing. He will be remembered as a family man who was a dedicated husband and father.

Joe is survived by his wife, Shirley Winter of Marquette; children, Steven (Elizabeth) Laine of Negaunee, Kris Laine of Gwinn, Roxanne K. (Raino) Narhi of Hubbell and Misty (Robert) Rhodes of Tyrone, PA; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Balwinski of Appleton, WI; and niece, Cheryl (Edward) Giesen of Marquette. Sister-in-Law Mickey (Tossava) Winter of Gwinn also many nieces and Nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald, brother, Jack Winter and sister, Donna Bertucci.

A private family service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the Marquette American Legion Post #44.

Joe's family would like to thank the "Angels" at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for their kind and compassionate care and generous support.
