MARQUETTE, MI. - Christina Elizabeth Banks Clark, age 100, of Marquette, entered eternal life on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.
Christina was born May 15, 1913 in Detroit, a daughter of Winfield and Elizabeth Banks. As a young woman, she met Isadore Clark and on January 19, 1934 the couple was married. To this union were born two daughters, Donna Jean and Judith Lyne. The family resided in Detroit until 1955 when they moved to Cheboygan.
Christina returned to school, graduating in 1958 from Cheboygan County Norman School. The graduation ceremony was combined with the Cheboygan High School graduation, and Christina had the added pleasure of graduating with her high school graduate daughter, Judy, in the same ceremony. Christina later taught in a one room rural schoolhouse for several years.
While residing in Cheboygan, Isadore and Christina were active in the Kiwanis Club for over 32 years and enjoyed being members of the Cheboygan Organ Society.
They were also active in the Masonic Lodge, Isadore as a Mason, and Christine belonging to the Order of the Eastern Star.
Christina possessed a variety of talents and her hobbies and interests were many, An accomplished musician, she enjoyed playing the piano and organ, serving as organist for the Cheboygan Kiwanis for 32 years and as a church organist for many years. She also enjoyed flower gardening and started a family tradition of having cream puffs for birthdays instead of birthday cake.
Those left to celebrate her Home Going are daughters, Donna (Carl) Fletcher of Arkansas and Judith Place of Marquette; four grandchildren, Diane (Ray) Green of Texas, Dale (Ellen) Fletcher of Kansas, Gregory (Lisa) Place of Marquette and Arthur Alan (Jody) Place of Nevada; six great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, sister and brothers-in-law, and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Christina was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Isadore; and her brother, Harold Banks of Williamsport, PA.
A memorial service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in the spring and will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethel Baptist Church, 829 Grove Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
