November 27, 2013
The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE - Marquette Charter Township's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Westwood Mall parking lot, Marquette.

The evening with will feature a variety of family-friendly activities including live music, hay wagon rides, a visit from Santa Claus as well as the tree lighting ceremony, which features a U.P. tree donated by Sargent Evergreens Tree Farm in Gladstone.

Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive on a Marquette Township Fire truck at 6 p.m. to light the tree, and the Marquette Redman Chorale will be performing selected holiday songs.

After the Christmas tree is lit, guests will be free to enter the mall for reduced cost professional photos with Santa (families can also take their own pictures), and enjoy free hot chocolate, apple juice, and cookies inside the mall compliments of the Snack Shack and the Super One Foods Bakery. Doug Gentz/John Deere will have tractors and hay trailers on hand to give free hay rides for the family.

Due to reports that a "Grinch" may again be on the loose in the Township, disrupting the Christmas Spirit and looking to prevent the tree lighting ceremony, Marquette County Sheriff's will be patrolling the area committed to making sure the Grinch doesn't run away with the Marquette Township Christmas Spirit!

For more information, call LeAnne Kachmarski 360-4680 or Randy Girard 906-228-6220 ext. 103.
