MARQUETTE - The Menominee Maroons survived a shaky third quarter Saturday and gained a 59-28 football triumph over the Muskegon Oakridge Eagles in an MHSAA Division 5 semifinal contest at the Superior Dome in Marquette.
Menominee led 49-0 at halftime before the Eagles scored 20 unanswered points in the third.
The victory sends the Maroons (13-0) to Saturday's state finals at Ford Field in Detroit, where they'll face Grand Rapids West Catholic (9-4) at 4:30 p.m.
West Catholic, which beat Menominee in the semifinals the past three seasons, whipped Livonia Clarenceville 50-0 in the other semifinal on Saturday.
Junior Justin Brilinski rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown and passed for 131 yards and three TDs and an interception out of Menominee's single-wing offense. Senior James Brown ran for 123 yards and two TDs.
Menominee outgained Oakridge (11-2) 427-278 in total offense.
Oakridge senior quarterback Austin Wright passed for 150 yards and three TDs and three interceptions.
Beal City 34,
Forest Park 18
Unable to stop Beal City quarterback Kurt Gloss, the Crystal Falls Forest Park football team dropped a 34-18 decision to the Aggies Saturday in an MHSAA Division 8 semifinal game.
Gross completed 12 of 20 passes for 195 yards and three TDs. His scoring tosses at the Superior Dome in Marquette were of 36, six and 23 yards.
Hayden Huber rushed for 87 yards in 12 carries for Beal City (13-0), which led 14-6 at the half.
Raymond Tomasik scored on a 6-yard run for Forest Park (12-1). Austin Snell and Daniel Nocerini added TD receptions of one and six yards, respectively, for the Trojans, both coming from quarterback Jeff Johnson.
Lee Graff paced the Forest Park ground game with 120 yards on 24 attempts.
