NMU football: Jessie, Parson named to All-GLIAC teams

MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University senior wide receiver Christian Jessie was named to the All-GLIAC football first-team on Wednesday as a specialist while Wildcats senior defensive back Brandon Parson made the second team.

Jessie, the 5-foot-9, 173-pound native of downstate Grand Rapids, led the league in return yards with 899, averaging 25 yards per return on his league-high 36 returns. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, including a 97-yarder against Hillsdale at the Superior Dome and a 100-yarder at Ferris State in his final collegiate game.

As a receiver, Jessie finished with 47 cacthes for 724 yards and four touchdowns. His 1,622 all-purpose yards ranked fourth in the GLIAC this year.

Parson, a 6-0, 182-pound transfer out of Petersburg, Va., and Alabama A&M, finished with 22 solo tackles and 37 total tackles this season, plus he made three interceptions and was credited with a forced fumble and a recovery at Saginaw Valley State.

Against Findlay in the season opener, Parson made five solo tackles and eight total, plus returned an interception 23 yards to set up a touchdown just before halftime of the Wildcats win.

In addition to Parson and Jessie, NMU had six players received honorable mention, including junior linebacker Nick Krause, sophomore running back Wyatt Jurasin, freshman punter Rob Salani, sophomore wide receiver Marcus Tucker, senior offensive tackle Chad Anderson and sophomore free safety Thomas McNamara.
