MARQUETTE - A Marquette man has been named to the Michigan Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame.

While Rick Schwemin was named as a player, he has also been a promoter and organizer of fastpitch softball in the area.

He will be inducted during a ceremony to be held at The H Hotel in Midland on Jan. 18. Tickets are available through Jan. 2 and cost $35 per person.

Schwemin began his 40-year playing career at age 15 in Marquette, primarily here with the Marquette Fence and Remillard's teams. He has played in numerous MASA, Amateur Softball Association of America and International Softball Congress tournaments.

Known as a fierce competitor, he has cracked more than 400 home runs, won more than 35 MVP awards and played in at least 40 national and international events, captaining Remillard's in all 15 of its national tourney appearances.

He has also been an umpire, an MASA commissioner and served on ASA classification committees.
