George E. Voce Jr.

HARVEY, MI. - George E. "Geo" Voce, Jr., age 66, of Harvey, entered eternal life Tuesday afternoon at his home.

Born January 7, 1947, in Marquette, the son of George E. and Lottie I. (Billings) Voce, Sr., George was raised in Marquette and was a member of the first graduating class from the new Marquette Senior High School in 1965. He enrolled at Northern Michigan University, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education, while at the same time working at the Delft and Nordic Theaters to help support his college education. He then enrolled in a trade school in Wisconsin to begin certification as a Master Journeyman, a four year course which he completed in two years.

Returning to Marquette, Geo was employed in the construction industry, working for several trade unions throughout the years, retiring in 2012. He was a gifted craftsman with both wood and metal.

In his leisure, Geo enjoyed making chimes, being an avid Packer fan, and working in his vegetable and flower gardens, with growing tomatoes and squash one of his specialties.

He was a member of several trade unions and, in his younger years, was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Geo is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. (Haara) Voce, whom he married on December 13, 1975; two step-daughters, Therese LaValley of Munising and Cindy LaValley of Marquette; three step-sons, Paul (Beth) LaValley of Marquette, Patrick LaValley of Brimley, and Peter (Laura) LaValley of Iron Mountain; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; his sister, Coralie (Rick) Hambleton of Marquette; several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and cousins.

Geo was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 16, beginning at 10:00 am. Funeral services will be held at the church at 11:00 am Saturday morning with Marcia Franz presiding. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be made in the Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Room At The Inn, 347 Rock Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
