MARQUETTE - A 20-year-old Marquette man is scheduled to be arraigned in district court next week on a charge that he posted nude photos of his ex-girlfriend on a revenge website, without her permission.
The Marquette Police Department said the man was arrested Tuesday and is charged with unlawful posting of a message, a two-year felony which is also punishable by a fine of up to $5,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:15 a.m. next Thursday.
Police said their investigation began Oct. 19 when the alleged victim contacted police and told them the man had posted nude photographs of her on the Internet without her consent. Police said the man and woman had been in a relationship but prior to the photographs being posted, the woman told the man she no longer wanted to see him.
Police said the photos were posted on a website designed for revenge. The woman became aware of the photos when she was contacted by acquaintances and strangers alerting her to the presence of the pictures on the website.
"The website offers to remove the pictures for $500 but upon the victim looking into that option she found that other victims had paid the $500 and did not have their pictures removed," said Detective Capt. Gordon Warchock. Police said the man was booked and released after posting 10 percent of a $10,000 bond.
