U19 girls hockey team goes 2-0-1 in openers

MARQUETTE - Marquette's Under-19 girls hockey team went 2-0-1 to open its season at home against Traverse City last weekend.

On Saturday, the mBank-sponsored team won 2-0 and 4-0 before tying 1-1 on Sunday. Rachel Livermore anchored Marquette in goal for both shutouts.

On Sunday, TC scored less than two minutes in and held the lead until 1:49 was left to play, when Amanda Gray struck against visiting goalie Addrianna Letts.

Shay Blewett scored three goals on Saturday for mBank, with Libbie Doney adding two and Brooke Swajanen one. Single assists were tallied by Blewett, Doney, Swajanen, Lexi Guidebeck, Faith Martin, Riley O'Connor and Taylor Swajanen.

Marquette plays four games this weekend. Two will be on Saturday in Hancock at the Houghton County Arena against the Copper Country, with the other two back home Sunday at Lakeview Arena against Cheboygan.
