NMU hockey: Northern rallies to tie Western Michigan 2-2

MARQUETTE - The Northern Michigan University hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit for the second-straight night in Kalamazoo to salvage a 2-2 tie against Western Michigan University in a nonconference game at Lawson Ice Arena.

The Wildcats (4-5-1 overall) came back from a 3-1 deficit on Saturday to win 5-4 at Western (3-3-2).

NMU senior forward Stephan Vigier tied the game with 2:47 to play in regulation on the power play with assists from junior defenseman Mitch Jones and junior forward Ryan Daugherty.

Vigier, whose 10 goals and 12 total points both lead the WCHA, has scored a goal in nine of the Wildcats' 10 games and eight straight.

Junior forward Reed Seckel got the Wildcats on the board 1:21 before the second intermission with an assist from junior defenseman Luke Eibler to cut the Broncos' lead in half.

Western scored both its goals on the power play with the first coming from Nolan LaPorte at 12:46 of the first period. Shane Berschbach then scored on a second-period power play at 7:13 to give WMU a 2-0 lead over Northern.

NMU redshirt freshman Mathias Dahlstrom finished with 26 saves while the Broncos Frank Slubowski totaled 25 saves.

NMU finished 1 for 5 on the power play while the Broncos were 2 of 6.

The Wildcats are off until Nov. 22-23 when they host Alabama-Huntsville in WCHA play.
