NMU men's hoops: Phoenix trip Wildcats, 71-49

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Northern Michigan University men's basketball team debuted under new head coach Bill Sall Saturday, losing 71-49 at NCAA Division I Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The Wildcats stayed with seven points at halftime, 34-27, before the Phoenix pulled away. UWGB built a 55-35 lead midway through the second half, when the Wildcats made just 21.9 percent of their shots.

Freshman Dorrell Foster and junior transfer Larry Taylor led the Wildcats with 12 points each, Foster making 6 of 12 attempts and Taylor 6 of 13.

Junior transfer Justin Newell had seven points for the 'Cats, while sophomore Terry Nash added four.

For the Phoenix, senior Vince Garrett had a team-high 15 points. Senior Alec Brown, junior Keifer Sykes and sophomore Carrington Love posted 10 points each.

The Wildcats travel downstate next weekend to Albion College for the Mike Turner Classic.
